Our Annual Easter Feast

In a little less than a week, Jeff and I will be waking up early to start our annual tradition of making my family’s pierogies for lots and lots of friends for Easter.   We will hand form each one on Sunday morning and line them up in neat little rows ready for boiling, all the while teasing each other about our very different techniques and Jeff will insist that his seal is stronger.  Mine will be fat and round and his will be long and skinny… I don’t think I have to state the obvious here… it never fails to make me laugh.    This party is my absolute favorite to throw every year.  We have a wonderful energetic egg hunt followed by a simple, heavy and delicious meal that always makes me think of my family.    Here are some photos from last year!  Continue reading

On the 10th Day of Christmas…Get Kitschy in the Kitchen!

IMG_0549It’s pretty rare that I get to bake elaborate and ridiculously fun things in the kitchen, so when Christmas comes, I like to go big…really big.   I had some leftover trees and a skiing Santa from the year’s snow-globe wreaths, so for our annual Christmas party, I made a ginormous ski slope cake bordered with a gingerbread cityscape and little candy house cupcakes!  I spread the baking out over a week to make it less stressful and it came out just how I had envisioned it…equal parts kitschy, homey and magical.  Continue reading

Keep it Simple: Toddler Birthday Parties

G's first birthday!

G’s first birthday!

It’s officially been over a year since I last wrote so I thought the best new post would be George’s first AND second birthday parties, both simple (ish) and super unfussy.   But first, let me quickly explain where I’ve been!

We always suspected something might be a little off with G, so we have spent the last year in and out of many doctor’s offices, hospitals and early intervention therapies.  In the end, we discovered that he has a super rare chromosome disorder, so our future has a lot more therapists, doctors and appointments in it than the average family, but overall he’s doing great.

I plan on blogging elsewhere about everything I’m learning in that world, but for now, I’m back to sharing all of my projects, parties and delicious food with you!   More about these two parties after the jump.  Continue reading
