On the 12th Day of Christmas…Keep Traditions Alive

There comes a time for a lot people when they decide to stay put for the holidays instead of heading to see their families or traveling to familiar places, whether it’s because of money, work or having kids of their own.   For all three of those reasons, this was our first year spending the holidays in Los Angeles instead of North Carolina with our families, so holding onto the traditions that I love so much was even more important to me.

We made a scaled down version of my family’s traditional Christmas Eve dinner, left out cookies and carrots for Santa, and then read Santa’s note to George before tearing into any presents.  When I was growing up, the rule was that no presents could be touched until my mom had her first cup of tea, and I love the memories of her slowly shuffling to the kitchen and taking her sweet time preparing it while we paced around behind her like a pack of hungry wolves.  I decided to carry that same tradition on myself this year and I hope one day I’ll also have my brood impatiently waiting while I secretly taunt them.

What are your Christmas traditions?  What will you keep for yourself or your own family?

Merry Christmas everyone!
