On the 9th Day of Christmas…Wrap and Stuff!

IMG_0540I love beautifully wrapped gifts…so much so that my family brings their gifts over to me to wrap for them!   I’m not a traditionalist at all when it comes to wrapping and I definitely don’t think that every piece of clothing needs a box, but I do love adding a little flair to each one.   This year, since my son learned his letters, I thought labeling each gift and the stockings with a monogrammed letter would be a great learning experience as well.   That way he can find a “G” on all his gifts and hand out everyone else’s gifts.   Continue reading

On the 6th Day of Christmas…Hot Cocoa!

I’ve been trolling the hot cocoa sticks recipe on Pinterest for years now, so I figured it was finally time to try her out.   I used the King Arthur recipe but altered it a bit to make a fragrant and slightly spicy Mexican hot chocolate and I made a bunch to ship out to our friends and family on the east coast.  It was a teeny tiny bit tedious the way I did it, but I have to say…it’s makes pretty freaking delicious hot cocoa! Booze Makeover

When my good pal, Arthur, sent me this project, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it for my own bar!  Like him, I also hate looking at ugly food labels on things exposed in my kitchen (which is why I’ve transferred all of my flour and grains into matching glass containers).  Aesthetics aside, his bar-bottle-makeover-project is brilliant for another reason too.  No one will ever have to know how cheap your alcohol is!    Here are his instructions, with my own side bars (hee hee) in red.

Adventures In Pickling

I’ve been one lucky gal since my husband decided to take an online pickling course.  He’s tried carrots, green beans, cucumbers, brussel sprouts and okra in a couple different brines with all different spices.  We’ve tasted and scrutinized, and loved every minute of it!  Check out my favorite recipe so far after the jump.
