I adore a simple, crunchy, lightly sweet slice and bake butter cookie. They are lovely rolled in colored sugar, chopped nuts or coconut. For a quick Valentine’s Day treat, I rolled my cookie dough log in homemade colored sugar and shaped it into a heart when it was partially chilled. Once it was completely firm, I just sliced it, revealing darling heart cookies with a red sugar edge. Super simple and a gorgeous little gift! Recipe after the jump. Continue reading

Valentine’s Day Cupcake Sandwiches
Last year, I couldn’t think of what to bake for Jeff for Valentine’s Day when I ran across an adorable heart-shaped Whoopie pie/muffin top pan in Michael’s and inspiration struck. He loves red velvet cupcakes so I decided to make him a sort of whoopie-pie-cupcake-sandwich hybrid. The result was gorgeous, super tasty and a less messy version of a cupcake to boot! I used the Magnolia Bakery recipe exactly, so no need to reprint, but be sure to check the cakes often because they don’t take long when they are in a shallow pan.

On the 4th Day of Christmas…Give Cookies!
I’ve never used my mom’s ceramic cookie stamps and I’ve been dying to for years. I decided to make sugar cookies for my son’s therapy school teachers and thought the stamps would be perfect for banging out a large quantity of simple but gorgeous cookies. At the last second, I thought it might be pretty to dry brush some gel food coloring over the larger designs and they turned out great! These only took about 2 hours total to make, so they are perfect for a last-minute gift or for making in large quantities. Continue reading

(Another) Adorable Community Baby Quilt!
Last year, I threw two baby showers where the guests collectively made adorable baby quilts to give to the couple as a gift. After I posted about them, I was contacted by an expecting mom to help her put together a similar quilt for her baby. She picked the participants and assigned a fruit or vegetable to each person. I mailed each person cute fabric pieces, a white background square, straight pins and instructions with return postage.
They mailed their block back to me, pinned together and all I had to do was stitch them down and embroider the name of the fruit or veggie! I love this quilt even more than the ones from last year because we didn’t allow fabric pens or paint which made the final product cleaner and more professional looking. SO cute! Continue reading
